| An open submission for photobooth strips |
| Submit by April 1, 2006 ...Opening Saturday April 8th. |
| Your friends at the Padlock Gallery invite you to think about the
Photobooth experience: the elation at the sight of an unexpected
booth, and the in-the-moment decision to steer your legs in its
direction (because somehow just the sight of it
has sparked some subconscious reflection of the very moments your are
experiencing, and an equally mysterious desire to suddenly want to capture it
all in some kind of document); the adjusting of the seat and
the choice between the blue and red backgrounds, whose dreamy hues
seem only to exist in your mind and nowhere else; the racing of your
blood as you slip those dollar bills in the slot; and when the flashes
start going, your mind is nowhere but there, concealed in that tiny,
unique environment, elevated to some other state with a rush of
adrenaline; and suddenly, the rules are different- you're only separated from
the natural world by a small piece of fabric; but for some reason, that's
enough; and within the walls of the photobooth, acquaintances become friends,
friends become lovers, serious people become goofballs, everyone becomes
part of the same team; and then that's it- it's all over so quick and
you can't even recall what just happened as you stand waiting for what
seems like an eternity for
your photos to drop in that slot (which really makes you start to
question if it did happen at all!); and they finally do, and they're
wet and smell funny, and you pass them around and laugh, or maybe you
tuck them inside a notebook to secretly savor or reflect upon at some
later date. We invite you to use the photobooth in unprecedented ways; figure out its secret powers and produce the visual map to lead us all to their discovery; or bully it around and show the booth just who the real boss is with your visual stylings.Ôø‡Think long and hard. Surprise us, and yourself, and everyone. Have a blast! |
| Submission Guidelines: |
| + Submit as many photobooth strips as you want. There is no limit! Do it by April 1, 2006 + Will only accept submissions created on or within actual photobooth strips (not accepting digitally manipulated strips, photobooth stickers, photocopied strips, or any other form of reproduction ...paint on'em, scratch your tag on it, whut ev's... just give us the OG strips, OK?) + Drop-off or mail submissions to: The Padlock Gallery 1409 Ellsworth Street Ôø‡Philadelphia, PA 19146 + Write your name and address LIGHTLY in pencil on the back of the strip. + The show will run the month of April, with an opening reception on April 8th, 2006 + Strips will be available for pickup on April 29th and 30th + If unable to pick up your strips in person, include a SASE for return |
